Bernd, does the imageboard elite live faster than 10 bits per second?
> biologist take on computer topics it's an interesting reversal, usually it's the computer scientists being overconfident about someone else's field > the ‘‘outer’’ brain handles fast high-dimensional sensory and motor > signals, whereas the ‘‘inner’’ brain processes the reduced few bits needed to control behavior this kind of thing is called a mainframe you can have a CPU in there that's not obviously faster than a PC CPU but the overall thing can be much more powerful because you handle the IO where the data is and thus don't have to ship everything to the CPU downside is the complexity cost is high but evolution doesn't really care about that
Consciousness is a conductor of a brain orchestra, tying its subsystems together into something coherent. The brain is the player of the game, you're its aimbot, the attention focus subsystem. You're a software running on hardware that still works without you. Sleepwalkers are not conscious, for example, but can still got to the fridge and make a sandwich, they just do it badly and uncoordinated.
also on a philosophical level it's pretty dumb to equate the CPU to the whole box, it's not even true for PCs but especially not for an architecture where all the interesting stuff happens in the peripherals > It is a popular belief that some people can memorize an entire page of text from a short glimpse and then recall it as though they were reading an internal photograph. Unfortunately, evidence for photographic or eidetic memory is weak at best. If such people existed, they would sweep the medals in worldwide memory contests, such as ‘‘Binary Digits.’’ Instead, the world champions continue to clock in at a measly 10 bits/s. I used to be able to do that but I lost it some time before I turned 10, which handily explains why I didn't turn up to competitions

Instead of the bundle of > Neuralink electrodes, Musk could just use a telephone, whose > data rate has been designed to match human language, which, > in turn, is matched to the speed of perception and cognition. this is also a bad and really incurious take yes you'll run into the central processing limit but you'll still get on the order of 1kB/s into the brain and it will be the brain's job to make sense of it and distill it down, which means it can be used for things that are much more interesting than pure language, such as motor control (bypassing what they call the 'inner brain')

Bernd has nothing about Pacifism per se. It's absolutely clear the absence of violence must be the prime objective, an utopia humanity must strive for because every conflict is at the lowest level simply a pointless waste of resources. Bernd just hates most self-proclaimes pacifists because they refuse - or are simply too stupid - to understand that violence and the ability to afflict violence on others is sometimes necessary to avoid further violence in the future. All they ever have are arguments like "slippery slope!" or "but the nuclear holocaust!" or some inaccurate historic reference/analogy. Bernd has a couple of these "pacifists" in his private circle and truly believes most of them lean that way mostly for very selfish reasons instead of the actual "superior" understading of history, ethics, morality etc. they claim to have. Especially the people who would rather flee than fight. The world is already full of bad people. If you allow them to take your land and control your emotions without resistance and flee, or stay hoping the new regime won't be that bad to you and collapse at some point anyways, all you're doing is increase the part of the world governed by bad people and give them a reason to come after you. It never ends if you don't put your foot down and then actually also defend that line where that foot is. Russia e.g. would have stopped fucking around long ago if NATO had simply shot down every military vessel crossing the border illegaly, like Turkey did in 2015. Sometimes such actions are necessary and obviously do work. Cowering in fear never works though.

If anybody here is thinking about just emigrating when the Russians invade, I would suggest you start making sure you have a couple of very, very, very valuable skills right now.

>>11584 It's fine now, they ended the White Australia policy already, you can come.

There are a number of very interesting civilizations and cultures that — due to very poor preservation of written records — we'll be stuck with only a very vague and surface understanding of. But there's a huge charm in their mystery. Tartessos was by all accounts incredibly wealthy thanks to Spanish ore. Literate, traded throughout the Mediterranean, but nobody knows where exactly the actual city was even as its influence shows up in archeological excavations over a large area.

I didn't want to make a separate thread, so I'm just posting it here. I, for an embarrassing amount of time, thought that Leipzig was spelled Leizipig and pronounced ''lazy pig''. That is all, carry on.

In this photo another group started to fight with the group I most photograph and this mother put them to run.

>>11458 They are fed daily by the park maintenance. Giving food to them is forbidden. Even when there was the Gaza conflict in october 23, everything was closed and I took a walk in the park and they peppered everything with food for them. But I guess the temptation is too high.

>>10951 I have no idea why basically all evolved countries have strict laws about noise pollution, but new gas-powered lawn mowers, leaf blowers etc. can still legally be sold while their electric (and usually also superior) counterparts have been available for years. Same goes for motorbikes and motor scooters.
>>10958 Reminds me of my last apartment. My bedroom was right between the stairwell of our house compartment and the stairwell of the other house compartment. Every morning at the same time I heard heels clacking, probably some woman going to work.
This is how nazism started.
>>11296 >while their electric (and usually also superior) counterparts No electric device can achieve the same power as a gas-powered one (yet), especially if it's using a battery, and if it does, it doesn't do that for as long (yet). Plus, back then (tm) when batteries weren't as good as today you had cables everywhere, and mowing 400m² while having to take care not to mow your own power cord SUCKS. Electric stuff is ok for small frontyards that are kept english, and tiny hedges and townhouse 10m² green spot amount of leaves, or for being as mobile as possible if you're often doing work in the woods, but for actual work there's (yet) no way around combustion engines.

>>9811 Vacuumrobotgarch! How are these? Would you recommend? Loud?
>>9978 Yeah, it keeps me company. It's less loud than my normal vacuum cleaner, but that one is 20 years old and wasn't expensive back then, so I can't compare it to modern vacuum cleaners. Also, the old cleaner cleans better despite its age, but for regular vacuuming it's fine. I clean the floors properly every 2 months or so, that would not be possible without the robot.

Yesterday we had a work gathering at a street food market where you could also sit down. One of the stalls there had a bakery that had transparent glass walls so you could see the people working there at all times. And one guy who worked there was an Uber chad with good hair, a nice beard, handsome face and well defined muscles and it was interesting to see how the women around me immediately wanted to jump on his dick. Multiple of my female colleagues said he’s hot and one of them didn’t even want change their seat, so she could continue looking at him. I also observed some other women who went to the bakery multiple times just to flirt with the guy. It seems women are as horny as men.

>>11191 It is completely inacceptable and you should say something. Even if women are "allowed" to behave like this because the are perceived as being less of a physical danger than men, it creates a low-key sexist atmosphere at work that nobody wants. She can do this with her friends, but treating people like objects isn't something you would ever want at work. It makes parts of the employees comfortable with judging people by their looks and attraction, which even if it doesn't create immediate problems internally (which it always does, e.g. when you hire people and in group dynamics) may be noticed from the outside and create drama.
>>11196 I agree. If it makes you uncomfortable, say something. Women should also say something if such lusting behaviour of men over some service personnel would make them uncomfortable.
>>11196 >>11198 If you would do that, you’d be the weird guy, because everyone else doesn’t take it seriously
