Living in a world without birds is meaningless. I love these little fuckers.
That's not a European bird, is it?
>>3491 Bro that's a normal sparrow, there are millions of them in Germany
>>3492 Okay, I was wrong, apparently its a Kohlmeise
>>3493 New slur for Kohlshit rapefugees just dropped
I saw a very nice flightless bird in a BBC article today but forgot its name

True. Made frends with some hooded crows. They can also have white and black feathers but the ones around here are mostly grey-black. The german name for them, Nebelkrähe, is cool. I like it the most. We just call them grey crows in croatian.
>>3493 It's certainly not a Kohlmeise. I'd say it's a relative of a sparrow, but not the common one in Europe.
>>3877 Could it be this? https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wei%C3%9Fkehlammer
>>3877 Or this? https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachsammer>>3877
>>3887 That looks like a very good match. How did you find this?
I have to live half of the year in a birdless world when they all migrate away for the winter. There's only an occasional hooded crow but nothing else. Just silence. It's the most depressing part of winter.
>>4122 > Just silence Sounds good to me.
>>3489 Be careful cause birds eat frogs.
>>4122 That’s indeed depressing
there is an app called Merlin for phone it identifies birds from sound built by some university (Cornell maybe) the UI is a bit bollocks, it drains battery and any recording longer than 10 mins causes problems sometimes but it's fucking awesome, I recognise lots more birds now and it's a buzz when you get a new one
>>4130 What's the difference between this and BirdNet?
search says Merlin is realtime (it runs without connection too)
>>4134 So it's kind of like offline BirdWeather? Neat.
>>4140 in late spring I was unironically getting up at 4am to record the birds waking up this year we have some barn swallows living in an open shed here for first time (we get swifts, wagtails etc. a lot usually) there is a door on my room to outside and they come inside a lot, cause havoc for 5 mins then leave
>>4130 I have Merlin as well and use it regularly, can recommend
