Since there seem to be at least two other modelers, let's make a scale model thread. >what are you building? >do you have a focus topic? >are you 3d printing? I will post my humble attempts ever since I started again. Third attempt in 20 years, but now I'll probably stick with it. Every model I try something new, like pigments on the Schneider cannon and custom parts (handles made from wire instead of the horrible, horrible molded ones that were on the model). Right now I am building a deHavilland Tiger Moth, as mentioned in another post in the tank thread, which will be a first for (serious) RIGGING.
I'm building nothing. My boxes stare at me with sad teary eyes each day, but I ignore them. Many such cases.
>>11313 That's a nice Hetzer. Those are all 1:35 I presume?

I mostly do 14th/15th Century figure stuff, but I'm occasionally dabbling in WW2 warbirds and vehicles. Last finished project is a mounted Gothic Knight in Matthias Corvinus' "Black Army" 1480-1490 and the current WIP is a Bf109 from 1940.
>>11318 Ooooh, now that's an obscure topic. What are those, 1:12 or whatever that figure scale is? Is there a market for those or are you printing them? Do you also paint other figures?
>>11319 The scale is either 54mm or 75mm which roughly translates to 1/24 or 1/35. They are usually resin 3d prints or white metal castings which I order, the market is there. As for 3D printing yourself - so far it seems to be great for fantasy or wargaming minis but proper files for historically accurate larger scale pieces seem to be extremely rare on the web, unless you are a good 3d modeller yourself or have the connections, which I don't. Other than that I have a ton of 1/35 WW2 plastic Tamiya figures.
>>11322 (the one I posted is 75mm and a kit from Altores Studio)
Wow, I would have thought it was much bigger with how detailed it looks. Good work, I'd say.
>>11324 Thanks, that Stuka is looking fine as well, I should try one again too. Only did one by Revell when I started out, messed it up bad so I binned it.
>>11327 Thanks. Heh, I have a Horten Ho-229 standing here which I started at my last attempt some years ago. Completely fucked up the paintjob, plus I used tissue paper to cover outlets and cockpit and such, and of fucking course wet paint and tissue paint is a bad idea. But since it has nice big wings and large surfaces, I use it as a mule to test for colors and techniques and such. I should go take a picture, it looks quite funny by now.
>>11317 Ye. Some are dusty.
>>11372 What colors are you using for your figures? Vallejo/Army Painter and the like I presume? What for scale models? I take you airbrush. And what is your technique for that chipped/scuffed paint? Sponge or stippling? I have also dabbled in figure painting, mainly because I have some tabletop stuff I want to paint, but I kind of lose motivation pretty quickly - I still have to paint like two entire 15mm division of ACW soldiers. Also, found some documentation from building the Stuka - masking the canopy that cost me like two entire evenings, making proper machine gun barrels from needles because the molded ones sucked ass, and painting the entire interior and pilot despite doing a closed canopy build :-DDDD

>>11375 I originally only had vallejo to brush paint with. Then I got airbrush and for airbrushing I use primarily AK real color thinned with Mr Thinner. There's only a couple models I airbrushed though, the T72, Typhoon are brush painted. Here's example of hetzer. >Paint some base color (oxide red kinda) >varnish >chipping fluid >spray camo >chip it >varnish >chipping fluid >spray white >chip it
Some more brush painted ones.

>>11382 Shiiiet you're actually going down to the primer. Sick. Also, your brush painted models look very good. I also have a bunch of brush painted models around, but they don't look as good: The Spitfire was actually the very first model I built after getting back into the hobby as an adult (which was before I quit for the second time). This was actually done entirely with a Revell starter kit, i.e. I used the colors and the brushes provided with the kit. I think for that it came out rather well. Second one is also a Revell kit, a Type VII sub, also brush painted. Sadly I ruined it with the varnish (spray varnish from the hardware store :-DDDDD). Because one of the aft radio wires broke (since it was just some shitty thread) I tried my hand at pulling sprue, and the results speak for themselves. Front: shitty way too thick yarn, back: pulled sprue Also, the promised pictures of the Horten, with all kinds of test stuff, including how to get gloss yellow. I really fucking hate yellow.
That Hetzer is top tier stuff, it would look amazing in a winter scene. I really need to implement chipping fluid, when I paint the shields of my knights I usually just chip and dirty it up with sponges and often overdo it.
>>11400 Very nice. Tbh my experience so far has been that if you don't overdo it always ends up looking really muted on picture
>>11420 This. For my T-34 I tried post-shading, which I thought looked pretty nice and already pretty obvious, but on pictures you can't see shit. And I don't want to go full boomer and drybrush everything.

>>11574 Paint, I lack the skill/patience to learn to do NMM.
>>11580 I doubt you lack the SKILL. I think it looks great.
>>11588 Thanks, I used the pdf on metal painting by Sergey Popovichenko as a guide, this guy is truly a master when it comes to painting and weathering medieval armour.
>>11591 You don't happen to have that book in digital form, nudge nudge wink wink?
>>11612 The PDF file is in my post.
>>11614 Fugg :-DDDD I only saw the Heinrich and didn't check twice. Thanks.
>You don't happen to also have ACW reference material? https://www.doc-jack-daniel.de/pdf-osprey.html
>>12651 Didn't know that site. Thank you very much Börnd :3
>>12653 Perry Miniatures also always come with great reference material in the box. They're really realistic for that small scale, not too comic-like and all handsculpted. I have their entire 1415-1429 and 1450-1500 range but they also have Franco-Prussian War, American Civil War etc.
>>12655 I know Perry, but those are all 28+ aren't they? I do 15mm, which is suffering, but I simply don't have the room for doing 28mm, despite them of course looking nicer.
>>12659 Yeah, unfortunately. I on the other hand wish they'd apply their handsculpt autism to even bigger figures which is almost all "soulless" 3D sculpts these days...
>>11522 Many shades of green :DDDD >>11612 Can I interest you in 5gb of random magazines / books? I could preselect to some books that I think are nice.
>>12903 >Can I interest you in 5gb of random magazines / books? NOOOOO DON'T TEASE MY HOARDING INSTICT LIKE THAT NOOOOOO Sure, hit me with everything you got. Unless it's a torrent because I don't torrent
